Others are starting to think and plan alternative living arrangements, so to speak. A couple of those ideas ended up on national TV.

The faux news show “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” did a story on Tuesday January 29th, about a recent story about modern-day “Galt’s Gulch” ideas here in America.

The first deboubt is found in Idaho, and named ”The III Citadel.” A Patriot friend of mine from Maryland named Sam Kerodin has a website at Three Percent Patriots. His reason for this name is that he contends that about three percent of the colonists took up arms and fought the British.

Sam has conceived an idea for a walled city taking its name from his Three Percent Patriots website. Sam has also founded a firearms manufacturing company named III Arms. The company has begun manufacturing AR 15 rifles and semi-automatic pistols fashioned after the Colt 1911. He plans that the company should be the anchor employer for III Citadel. His plan calls for about 2,000 acres, about half entirely walled in, with turrets and defensive towers at strategic locations around the wall. He envisions this to be an entirely self-sustaining community of a few thousand families.

It’s actually kind of a novel idea. This will be the only walled city in North America, so I’m thinking it will be a tourist destination…among other things. And with the beauty of the Coeur d’Alene area, touring a walled city would be kind of cool. Living there might be interesting. I encourage you to check it out.

Mr. Kerodin’s website explains that he and the organizers will require certain behavior and beliefs to be held by participants and property holders. And while some of the requirements for participation seem reasonable, it’s still a planned community. Inside-the-wall residents that are approved do not own property, they have to pay a lease on their residence. To learn more, click on their FAQ page.

III Citadel will take hundreds of millions of dollars to come into being. I wish Sam and the organizers success.

Then we turn out attention to Glen Beck. For you who have not kept up with Mr. Beck’s career, he moved out of New York a year or so ago and relocated to Texas! Beck still has his syndicated radio show and does online video among other things.

But the Glen Beck brain child is a planned community called Independence USA.

You can watch Beck’s video descriptions of this gulag at the link above.

I watched his videos. In my opinion, Beck has invented a kingdom for himself where he gets to call the shots while telling everyone living, working and visiting there how “free” they are. Sadly, we already have this kind of “freedom” here in the USA.

Some highlights of Independence USA:

~A main gate that is a replica of the entrance to Ellis Island. You remember… “give me your tired, your poor…” Beck never mentions any other way in or out of the place, so the main gate is a choke point for ingress and egress.
~A Marketplace District. But Beck says companies like Ann Taylor and The Gap are not welcome…he doesn’t really say why. But from what I see, if you are going to have a business in the Park, you have to locate it in the Marketplace. So much for a free market in The Park. Other cities have little markets and gas stations close to residential areas. Beck didn’t mention how residents were supposed to fill their gas tanks.
~The Ranch. Independence USA will grow its own food. I guess the residents will have a somewhat restricted diet of highly-priced foods, since the Ranch can’t or won’t grow everything. And some crops take many years to begin producing, like fruit trees and vineyards. So, it looks like there will be no free market in world foods at this open air prison.
~The Media Center. This area is a combination movie studio and TV/radio station. Beck says that they will only offer programming with themes of “common decency.” And who do you suppose will be the ones who control the content? Beck and company. So much for the freedom of speech in Independence USA.
~The Alamo. This is a replica of San Antonio’s Alamo. Beck describes this place as the clearinghouse for charities. So if you are going to perform any charitable act in the Park, you have to do it through the Alamo. Where is the right of free association and the right to do with your assets what you wish without outside interference?
~The Research &Development Center. Once again, Beck designates that in his dreamland, if you want to do R&D, you have to do it in HIS location, not a location of your own choosing.
~Residential areas. Beck’s idea of neighborhoods has the intention of breaking “class barriers.” But doesn’t this FORCE people who may not want to live together…to live together? Since time immemorial, people group together in ways that THEY choose…by tribe, religion, skin color, economic strata, nationality, etc. But Beck can’t stand all that freedom of choice. Beck doesn’t like this, and it is his intention to put on the heat in HIS melting pot ideal to force melting. Beck also says that people spend too much time in their own back yards. So, he has designed the housing where the streets run behind the house, and the houses face a common green space…a park of sorts. He intends to encourage…force…people who live there to spend time in the FRONT yard. But what Beck doesn’t seem to understand is just because you change the location of the street doesn’t make it any better. It only makes changes the labels on the yards. Look at a regular subdivision. Street…front of house…house…back yard…neighbor’s back yard adjacent…house…front of house…street. Beck is not changing anything. Who cares if the front yard is where the back yard used to be? Do people in subdivisions NOW meet their neighbors in the back yard? Answer…if they WANT to. Beck’s utopia FORCES people to meet where HE says they should meet. Also, I guess there are no apartments in the Park. Probably because they don’t have yards that he could regulate.
~Theme Parks and entertainment venues. Beck fancies himself an entertainer, and all his methods of entertainment will have his fingerprints on them. He and his ilk will control the forms of entertainment offered in Independence Park.

I could go on, but I don’t want to bore you.

Over and over in his videos, Glen Beck says the phrase “WE HAVE TO…”

The “we” is himself and his overlords. And if you take the time to look at these videos, you will see something that is glaringly absent…LIBERTY AND CHOICE. If you agreed to live in his Shangri-La, you are simply going to trade one set of masters for another. In Independence USA, the theme is CONTROL AND FORCE. Oh, and don’t forget PROPAGANDA. Beck’s crew will force you to live under THEIR rules, and do things their way. And though it all, the Media Center will try to convince you that you are experiencing liberty there in the Park.

In The Free Republic of North America, the national government sets some basic ground rules for the governance of the nation. Then FRONA relies on the FREE MARKET to regulate everything else. No main gates. Have any kind of store or business you want. Grow food or import it from the farms of the world. Ideas and media flow free in FRONA. Do whatever charity you choose with your own assets, because there is no tax deduction or government benefit to encourage or discourage you. And live where you want to live, how you want to live, where you can afford to live, with or without a back yard.

The Citadel and Independence USA are perfect communities for people who are willing to have other people tell them how to live. But FRONA is a nation only suited for those who can handle true liberty. I submit to you that most people living in the USA today will not be able to handle the level of liberty found in FRONA. That is because most people in the USA are comfortable with the level of intrusive regulation and confiscatory taxation in their lives. Americans are OK with the government hammering down the nails that stick up, so to speak. The free market is messy, not all buttoned down and decided beforehand.

FRONA is not a planned community, or a glorified Homeowner’s Association, or a utopian ideal. FRONA is a nation with a method of governance that works, that protects individual liberty and property rights, rejects Capitalism as it is practiced throughout the rest of the world, and relies solely on the “Invisible Hand” of the Free Market for societal harmony and prosperity.

YOU move to III Citadel or Independence USA. I’ll be in FRONA.

The Free Republic Of North America will be the free-est place on earth. Don’t YOU want to live there? Can you handle that much freedom?

Secession is the only solution for individual liberty and property rights on the North American continent.

Ever hear of Celebration, Florida? Google it. Celebration is a planned community by Disney, Inc. in central Florida. The appearance and operation of every structure and person is strictly regulated by the Giant Rat (Mickey Mouse & company).

Why do glorious visions of the future always ignor personal freedom of choice? Is liberty an obscure term?

it’s just me, hollering from the choir loft…

  2. Roger Young says:

Beck will be bankrupt and sweeping floors for a living before too long. I seriously doubt his centrally planned gulag will even break ground.
It’s always humorous to me when “anti-communist” conservatives reveal just how collectivist they are.

  3. kunkmiester says:

At least these communities are small enough to let us choose whether or not to live near them. Likely, much like the communes and kibbutzes, these will eventually go the way of the dodo.

This is a sort of anarcho-tribalism. Group of people that think alike get together in one place where they can do their own thing without(hopefully) bothering their neighbors, and people are free to come and go as they please depending on how they think. There’s more to the description as always, but it’s not like they’re demanding we live there.

    • Nunya13 says:

They aren’t demanding we live there, but it shows their hypocrisy and severely diminishes the validity of their arguments and claims. They claim they are trying to get away from freedom-crushing-agenda to control everyone’s lives, but they offer an alternative in which THEY control everyone’s lives. At the Citadel, residents don’t even own their own land! At Independence USA, residents can only watch on TV what is approved by “The Media Center”. It’s a ludicrous alternative.

    Hey Russ,
I would like to learn more about Frona and becoming an enteprenuer. I have worked hard and struggled for years only to have divorce and economic downturn put me right back to square one. While I have enjoyed reading some of kerodins blogs Ido not want to live in a planned community of any sorts. I would like to purchase some land someay and live as my forefathers who emmigrated here in 1725 by the fruit of their labors the providence of God and most of all Free!
